Bağcılar Municipality organized an engaging workshop to connect young students with nature, promote sustainability, and raise awareness about climate change. The event, held with fourth-grade students, featured the creation of terrariums using waste yogurt buckets and fabrics, emphasizing the importance of recycling and zero waste.
The highlight of the activity was the integration of a solar panel and lighting system into the terrarium, showcasing the potential of renewable energy as a solution to climate change. Students learned firsthand how waste materials like textile and plastic can be transformed into valuable resources, rather than discarded as garbage.
Mayor Abdullah Özdemir actively participated in the workshop, underlining the municipality's dedication to addressing climate issues. Following the hands-on activity, Expert Gizem Mataracı delivered an engaging presentation titled “What is Climate Change and What Can We Do?” Students enthusiastically participated, responding to questions and demonstrating a keen interest in the topic.
Approximately 75 students took part in the event, which concluded with environmentally themed gifts for the participants. By incorporating natural elements into the urban environment, the workshop fostered a deeper connection between children and nature.
This innovative event demonstrates Bağcılar Municipality’s commitment to fostering environmental consciousness and empowering the next generation to take meaningful action against climate change.
