EU4ETTR Climate Adaptation Workshop

EU4ETTR Climate Adaptation Workshop was held on 26 July 2024 with 46 participants from 22 municipalities! 

The training included a presentation by Prof. Dr. Tuncer Demir on adaptation measures in urban areas, explaining possible actions and adaptation strategies for different sectors to make cities more resilient to the adverse impacts of climate change. In his presentation, Mr. Demir mentioned the definition, causes and impacts of global climate change; addressed climate change impacts such as temperature increases, precipitation decrease, natural disasters in Türkiye; emphasised factors such as physical, economic, demographic and the purpose of adaptation in terms of vulnerability and adaptation; mentioned issues such as increasing temperatures, extreme weather events, sea level rise, water scarcity, fires, health risks and food security as potential hazards for cities; listed measures such as cooling and green roof applications, urban greening, heat-resistant design, thermal building standards, heat warning systems, public participation and data monitoring within the scope of adaptation strategies; specified structural and non-structural actions as flood adaptation measures and emphasised the importance of an integrated approach, cooperation and continuous monitoring and evaluation efforts for adaptation.

Trainer Mr. Demir also presented the draft urban adaptation guide and brochure. He shared practical tips and case studies for individuals and municipalities to mitigate climate change impacts in cities. In addition, urban heat island mitigation, health adaptation measures and co-operation recommendations were addressed.
