İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality Energy Department Meeting Reviewed Energy Efficiency and Renewable Projects

On April 5, 2022, a meeting was held with the İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Energy Management and Lighting Department to review existing projects related to energy efficiency and renewable energy and to discuss future initiatives. The meeting aimed to assess IMM's current activities, gather data on energy efficiency efforts, and explore potential project ideas for building renovation and energy management.

The meeting was attended by IMM officials and EU4ETTR project experts. Discussions highlighted IMM's target of reducing energy consumption in municipal buildings by 18%. The department provided information on financing structures and ongoing projects, such as the collaboration with GIZ to support Syrian refugees with the installation of solar panels. IMM also reported a total energy consumption of 2.4 billion kWh across various municipal services and emphasized the challenges of financial constraints in implementing energy-saving projects. The department has developed a software in collaboration with a Turkish supplier to monitor energy usage and report technical issues. The meeting concluded with a focus on overcoming financial barriers and leveraging internal and external resources to advance energy efficiency initiatives.
