SUCCESSFUL BAĞCILAR ENERGY BASED MITIGATION GRANT PROJECT COMPLETED

Bağcılar Municipality together with Lithuanian Central Project Management Agency (CPMA) celebrated a significant milestone in their sustainability journey with the completion of the "Bağcılar Energy Based Mitigation Project" on March 7, 2024. 

The project, supported by the “EU4 Energy Transition: Covenant of Mayors in Western Balkans and Türkiye” (EU4ETTR) initiative and implemented  by grant agreement signed with Lithuanian Central Project management agency (CPMA).
Bağcılar Municipality successfully installed a 171.72 kWp rooftop solar power plant, generating an estimated 203.9 MWh of clean energy and preventing approximately 100,318 kg of CO2 emissions annually.
The project completion meeting marked a significant achievement for Bağcılar Municipality. During the event, Mr. Abdullah Özdemir, Mayor of Bağcılar Municipality, shared the city's vision and plans for achieving its sustainable energy and climate goals. 
Ms. Rasa Suraučienė, Deputy Director of  Lithuanian Central Project Management CPMA, congratulated Bağcılar Municipality for completing the project in record time and highlighted the project's accomplishments and progress.  Ms. Suraučienė mentioned that Bağcılar Municipality is a frontrunner in Türkiye's fight against climate change, they one of the first implemented grant project, demonstrating strong commitment and great teamwork.

During Grant ceremony also emphasized  a multi-level governance platform creating via project importance for positive impact on the community, fostering continued collaboration for future sustainable energy initiatives and sharing valuable lessons learned for further advancements in sustainability efforts.

Bağcılar's municipality new solar power plant stands as a testament to the municipality's commitment to a greener future, paving the way for a more sustainable and environmentally conscious city.
