Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan Training

UCLG-MEWA, in collaboration with the EU4ETTR project, hosted a comprehensive training workshop on Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plans (SECAP). The event aimed to enhance the technical capabilities of local governments in Türkiye and the Western Balkans regarding climate action and energy transition.

The training commenced with opening speeches by Mehmet Duman, Secretary General of UCLG-MEWA, and key figures including Birol Ekici, Secretary General of the Union of Municipalities of Turkey, and Ricardas Degutis, Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania. They emphasized the importance of effective energy use and climate action in urban settings and the need for international cooperation.

The agenda featured a series of expert-led sessions covering the structure and reporting requirements of the Global Covenant of Mayors (GCoM) and the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP). Notable speakers included Giorgia Rambelli from GCoM and Lucy Latham from CDP, who provided insights into their respective frameworks.

The training also delved into SECAP development approaches, including scope, target setting, and case studies such as the Bağcılar Municipality's SECAP. Sessions on emission inventories, risk and vulnerability assessments, and the implementation and monitoring of SECAPs highlighted practical strategies and tools.

The event concluded with a discussion on energy transformation in Türkiye and the monitoring of SECAPs, led by experts Arif Künar and Dr. Alexandra Papadopoulou.

This initiative underscores UCLG-MEWA's commitment to strengthening local climate action and fostering collaboration between Turkish municipalities and international partners.
