May 23, 2022A workshop titled "The Covenant's Other Key Sectors: Transport, Waste, and Water, including Urban Adaptation Planning and Practices," was held in Istanbul on May 23-24, 2022, as part of the EU4 Energy Transition and TRATOLOW projects. The event brought together over 100 participants from Turkish local governments. The workshop focused on climate change mitigation and adaptation actions in the transport, waste, and water sectors, with valuable insights and case studies shared by international and national experts. Discussions included urban mobility strategies, sustainable transportation, waste-to-energy practices, and water resource management. Special emphasis was placed on adapting to climate risks and building resilience in urban areas.
On the second day, a panel discussion on adaptation planning and practical training sessions were held. Participants explored best practices from cities like Vienna and London, discussing how these cities approach climate risks and enhance resilience. The event concluded with recommendations for Turkish municipalities, aiming to support the development of Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plans (SECAP) and strengthen efforts towards a low-emission, climate-resilient future in the region.
