Scope. The topic supports the development and demonstration of low-voltage direct-current and other innovative urban microgrid systems. Projects should connect electrical applications within buildings or urban areas and improve the integration of local renewable electricity, energy storage, self-consumption, demand management and energy-efficient technologies. Demonstrations may include municipal buildings, schools, hospitals, social housing, public facilities, neighbourhoods, transport facilities and other urban sites. Projects should show how microgrids can reduce energy consumption, improve the use of locally generated renewable energy, increase flexibility and reduce greenhouse-gas emissions.
Sectors. Municipal energy systems, renewable energy, energy storage, smart grids, energy-efficient buildings, local energy communities, public buildings, digital energy management and urban infrastructure.
Eligible applicants. Legal entity (including from Türkiye).
Key requirements. Projects should:demonstrate the microgrid in a real urban environment; integrate renewable-energy generation and local energy storage; improve energy efficiency and renewable-energy self-consumption; include digital monitoring and energy-management systems; address interoperability, cybersecurity, safety and business models; involve municipalities, building owners, energy users and local stakeholders; demonstrate measurable reductions in energy consumption and greenhouse-gas emissions; provide a plan for replication in other cities and regions.
Funding & duration. Funding rate up to 100% under Horizon Europe rules. Project budgets: 20 mln. Eur. Project duration: 36–48 months.
