HORIZON-CL5-2027-02-D3-15
Scope. Projects should develop and demonstrate innovative solar photovoltaic (PV) cell and module production technologies that exceed the performance of commercially available solutions. They should achieve higher conversion efficiency while maintaining reliability, durability and low degradation. Activities should focus on developing energy-efficient, resilient and defect-free manufacturing processes that are ready for industrial scale-up, including production equipment, pilot lines, digitalised processing and automation. Projects should also establish a strong pathway towards commercialisation and deployment of the resulting technologies.
Sectors. Solar photovoltaics, renewable energy, photovoltaic cell and module manufacturing, advanced materials, industrial automation, digital manufacturing, energy efficiency, clean technology, sustainable energy systems and European renewable energy supply chains.
Eligible applicants.Legal entity (including from Türkiye).
Key requirements.Projects should:demonstrate solar cells and modules with conversion efficiencies beyond those of commercially available technologies; ensure degradation rates, reliability and performance at least comparable to the most reliable commercially available technologies; develop resilient, energy-efficient and defect-free production technologies suitable for manufacturing at multi-megawatt-peak (MWp) scale; develop and demonstrate production equipment and pilot lines incorporating digitalised and automated manufacturing processes; provide a credible pathway for scaling up production, commercialisation and market deployment; present a strong business case and an exploitation and dissemination plan, including feasibility studies, business planning and potential sources of follow-on funding; contribute to the objectives of the European Partnership for Innovation in Photovoltaics (EUPI-PV) and support the European solar energy research and innovation agenda
Funding & duration. Funding rate up to 100% under Horizon Europe rules. Total indicative call budget: EUR 36 million. Expected EU contribution: approximately EUR 12 million per project, with around three projects expected to be funded. The action type is Horizon Europe Innovation Action (IA). Projects are expected to achieve Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 7 by the end of the project. The precise project duration should be established according to the final call conditions and proposed work plan. Project duration: 24-36 months.
