Cities are indispensable actors in the global climate transition, and urban investment today will shape a global low-emissions and resilient future. Currently, 56% of the world’s population lives in cities and 70% of people are expected to reside in urban areas by 2050 (World Bank 2023). Urban areas contribute to 70% of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, 75% of global energy consumption, and generate over 80% of global gross domestic product (IEA 2024)
