On May 5th, Ardahan Municipality signed the Covenant of Mayors, committing to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by 2030.
In line with European Union strategies to combat climate change, Mayor Faruk Demir of Ardahan Municipality signed the Covenant of Mayors, committing to review greenhouse gas reduction and climate adaptation targets. Within the framework of the Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan (SECAP), he stated that the goal is to make Ardahan resilient to climate change and to contribute to environmental awareness.
Ardahan Municipality, as the local government body of Ardahan province, is responsible for the execution of infrastructure, superstructure and social services of the city. The Municipality carries out various projects and studies for the modernization, development and improvement of the quality of life in the city. It responds to the needs of citizens by providing a wide range of services from infrastructure services to environmental arrangements, from social assistance programs to cultural activities. In recent years, Ardahan Municipality has taken important steps to combat sustainable energy and climate change. The Municipality actively participated in the preparation process of Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan (SECAP) and focused on issues such as energy efficiency, use of renewable energy sources and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. During the SECAP preparation process, the municipality has developed various projects to improve its environmental performance and minimize the negative impacts of climate change.
Ardahan Municipality's environmental protection and climate efforts include expanding recycling programs, improving waste management systems and increasing green areas. The Municipality regularly organizes awareness-raising campaigns and training programs to raise environmental awareness and provides environmental education in schools and community centers. It also aims to increase energy efficiency and reduce the city's carbon footprint through projects promoting the use of renewable energy sources.
