The Ayrancı area is a highly urbanized part of the city center. Due to the impacts of ongoing urban transformation, the neighborhood faces challenges such as rapid loss of green areas, an increasing carbon footprint, waste management issues, and vulnerability to climate change.
As an association, we see it as a priority to develop locally driven, communityparticipatory, and nature-friendly projects to address these problems. With this motivation, we aim to implement concrete actions such as:
Neighborhood-based climate resilience initiatives
Preventing the loss of green spaces caused by urban transformation and increasing urban greenery
Measuring the urban heat island effect resulting from reduced green space and raising public awareness on this issue.
NATURE-BASED SOLUTIONS AGAINST THE URBAN HEAT ISLAND IN AYRANCI
The project aims to provide policy recommendations for spatial planning to mitigate the urban heat island effect in Ayrancı through nature-based solutions.
It seeks to raise awareness about preserving the Dikmen Valley, tree-covered areas, and parks—considered urban ecosystem services—in the context of the urban heat island effect in Ayrancı, and to foster awareness so that ongoing densification and potential new urban developments within the framework of urban transformation are carried out without diminishing these ecosystem services.
