Bolu Municipality

Bolu Municipality is a local government institution serving the province of Bolu, located in Türkiye's Black Sea Region. The municipality aims to achieve sustainable development by developing environmental, social, and economic projects. The principles of social municipalism are prominent in the municipality's activities, which focus on production-supported projects aimed at enhancing the quality of life for the public and implementing social projects that ensure the economic participation of local residents.

Recently, Bolu Municipality has developed projects in the areas of environmental protection and climate change mitigation. The city has initiated strategic planning efforts, including the preparation of a Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan (SECAP) and a Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP), supported by EU-funded projects. Additionally, the municipality collaborates with local and international partners to develop projects aimed at conserving biodiversity and creating climate-resilient green and blue infrastructure systems.

The municipality also seeks support for Bolu's projects by applying for national and international funding and preparing various projects in partnership with different organizations for regional development. Among the long-term goals of Bolu Municipality are increasing the city's recognition at both national and international levels, collaborating with various ministries and development agencies, and developing sustainable projects that support environmental and social development.

Bolu Municipality conducts strategic projects in various fields, prioritizing environmental sustainability and social benefit. In this context, investments in Solar Power Plants (SPPs) aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions are among the priority projects. Additionally, the municipality aims to increase the capacity and modernization of wastewater and drinking water treatment facilities while developing waste management processes to protect environmental health.

Bolu Municipality seeks to enhance the infrastructure of solid waste recycling facilities to promote the efficient use of resources and implement best practices in waste management. The parks and gardens in the city are being equipped with systems designed to enhance environmental resilience and create carbon sink areas, in line with the goal of adapting to climate change.

As part of its social responsibility, the municipality is also implementing projects that support the integration of disadvantaged groups into economic and social life. To build a sustainable economy, steps are being taken to establish production facilities that increase local production and create employment opportunities.

Projects Involved:

  • Preparation of the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP): Preparations have commenced through the Provincial Bank.
  • Wastewater Treatment Facility: The municipality is preparing a project to increase the capacity of the existing wastewater treatment facility.
  • By-products of the Wastewater Treatment Facility: Preparations have begun for the facility to generate energy from sludge waste.
  • Solar Power Plants (SPP): A project is being prepared for the construction of additional facilities to supplement the existing SPPs.
