In addition to being the most populous and industrialised region of
our country, the Marmara Region, where our city is located, is also a
very sensitive region against the effects of climate change. Climate
change risks; the population concentrated in our region and the
production, consumption and industry that increase accordingly
increase the effects of climate change. As a result of bringing all
parties together with a holistic approach in combating climate change
in our city, an action plan has been prepared with common sense. In
the said action plan, a climate risk assessment of our city has been
made with the information, opinions and suggestions of relevant and
authorised institutions /organisations.
The Greenhouse Gas Inventory and Climate Change Action Plan of
our city, which includes buildings, waste / wastewater, transport,
industry, land use and energy issues, was first prepared in 2018, and
the existing plan was updated in 2022 to include the determination of
mitigation and adaptation strategies. After the United Nations Climate
Change Conference (COP27), our country has set its National
ContributionDeclaration as a 41% incremental reduction target, and in
the updated plan, in parallel with the National Contribution
Declaration, our target for our province has been updated as 41%
incremental reduction for 2030.In our city, studies on climate change
adaptation and mitigation are carried out within the scope of the
action plan prepared.
