Mersin Yenişehir Mayor Abdullah Özyiğit aims to create a livable city with a service approach built on 6 basic principles: Movement, Education, Citizenship, Solidarity, Urbanisation and Ecology. Yenişehir is one of the leading cities not only in Mersin but also in the region with its culture, art, sports and social facilities, education and health opportunities. Mersin Yenişehir Municipality is implementing its projects and incentive practices one by one to develop the infrastructure of our city and attract our fellow citizens to these areas.
It adopts a municipality approach that takes initiative and produces projects to solve social, environmental and urban problems in its district.
In order to create its 5-year strategic plan, the Mnicipality held meetings in 32 neighborhoods and listened people. The Municipality set up request boxes in the mukhtars' offices and received the suggestions and demands of citizens who could not attend the meetings in writing. The Municipality organized workshops on sports, socio-cultural, social services, urban services and ecology with the participation of experts and civil society organizations in these meetings. The data obtained from neighborhood meetings and workshops formed the basis of its strategic plan and for the first time in Türkiye, a municipality has prepared a strategic plan with public participation.
In all its work in Yenişehir, the Municipality includes people in decision-making processes and manage the city together with participation.
