The Union of Energy Cities of the Republic of Türkiye (EKB) was established in 1997 in Kızılcahamam district of Ankara province as a public institution with legal personality under the name of Union of Geothermal Resource Municipalities of the Republic of Türkiye(JKBB) in accordance with the relevant articles of the Law No. 5355 on Local Administrative Unions. In 2019, the name of the Union was changed to "Union of Energy Cities of the Republic of Türkiye’ in order to comply with the conditions of the day and in line with the demands from the municipalities.
The mission of the Union is to ensure that renewable energy resources provide the highest added value to local development, national welfare, economy and employment with the contribution of municipalities in the most efficient and environmentally sensitive way.
The vision of the Association is to establish a secure future where renewable energy resources are predominantly used together and integrated in every field where energy is utilised.
