Adapting to Climate Change in Mediterranean Cities

Cities across Mediterranean Europe are facing serious climatic threats like heat waves, droughts, and wildfires. According to a recent study of 73 cities, while 67% of regions have adaptation plans, this figure corresponds to only 30% of cities. The most common challenges include extreme temperatures and rainfall, with many cities adopting nature-based solutions for resilience.

However, the need for more comprehensive planning is critical—especially in countries like Italy, where only 6% of cities have developed local climate adaptation plans.
