Gülnar Municipality is increasingly focusing on climate resilience and sustainable rural development as key components of its local governance strategy. Within this scope, the primary areas of interest include:
-Development of a local SECAP
- Implementation of waste separation systems at source
-Public awareness campaigns on waste reduction
- Engaging in national and international funding mechanisms
- Collaboration with regional and European municipalities
Gülnar Municipality is currently in the process of joining the MLGP4 Climate Platform and is planning to start the preparation of its SECAP (Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan) as of September 2025. Although we are a small municipality in terms of population and staffing capacity, we serve a geographically vast area covering 50 neighborhoods, many of which are remote and dispersed rural settlements.
Our jurisdiction includes large forested and mountainous regions, making Gülnar one of the areas most directly impacted by climate change-related risks, including drought, forest fires, and rural erosion. As a municipality with limited resources but strong commitment, we aim to take decisive steps toward energy efficiency, zero waste practices, and climate resilience—through strategic planning, partnerships, and community engagement. In line with the national “Zero Waste” policy of Türkiye, the municipality is actively deploying waste segregation units across public institutions and high-density residential areas. Public education campaigns, school programs, and municipal staff training are key components of this ongoing initiative
