Konya Metropolitan Municipality

The Konya Metropolitan Municipality, operates with an understanding of municipal service that responds to local and regional demands, producing quick and high-quality services that are sensitive to both people and the environment, aiming to facilitate the lives of its citizens, was established on July 22, 2004, in accordance withthe related article on Metropolitan Municipalities. Under this law, the municipality has assumed significant duties and responsibilities in various critical areas for the city. Additionally, with Law No. 6360, supplementary duties have been assigned to the municipality to sustain its effective operations on urbanization.  

The Konya Metropolitan Municipality,comprises 22 different departments operating in various fields, each department, with its unique duties and responsibilities, contributes to the development of the city, in order to meet the city's needs and provide the best service to its citizens, has a broad departmental structure. Among these, there is a specific unit dedicated to addressing climate change issues called the Directorate of Climate Change and Zero Waste.

Environmentally Friendly Urban Planning: Implementing environmentally sensitive urban planning in municipal services.

The Konya Metropolitan Municipality, under the Directorate of Climate Change and Zero Waste, addresses various climate actions. The following key topics are highlighted:

Primary areas of interest are as follows:  

Adaptation and Mitigation of Climate Change: Addressing the challenges encountered in minimizing the impacts of climate change and adapting to its effects is central to our strategies. We aim to identify these challenges and develop effective and sustainable solutions.  

Climate Financing: Access to the necessary financial resources for climate change mitigation and adaptation projects is a key priority. Our municipality is actively working to secure the financial support required to effectively implement climate actions.  

International Joint Project Development: Developing international collaborative projects to create innovative and impactful solutions on a global scale is one of ourobjectives. We seek to enhance the scope and impact of projects through international partnerships and collaborations. 

Experience Sharing and Best Practices: Sharing experiences, monitoring and evaluating best practices. We organize activities to promote the dissemination of best practices and facilitate information exchange.  

Bilateral Cooperation: Strengthening bilateral cooperation to develop effective and long-term solutions for climate change mitigation is a priority.
