Zero Waste Project

Within the scope of Zero Waste Regulation, the necessary work has been completed in 113 of our units for Konya Metropolitan Municipality Zero Waste Certificate and all of our units have been registered in the ECBS system and 84 of our units have received Zero Waste Certificate and the documents of the remaining units will continue to be received. Zero Waste Project has started to be implemented in our Municipality Building and affiliated units. Within the scope of the project, a total of 6570 tonnes of recyclable waste was collected in the buildings affiliated to our Municipality in the first six months of 2024.

Zero Waste Pilot Region Project

Within the scope of the Zero Waste Pilot Region Project carried out with the support of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change, 45 pieces of equipment were distributed in order to collect waste (paper, glass, plastic, metal, waste battery, vegetable waste oil) separately at source. The website established within the scope of Konya Zero Waste Project includes news on the activities carried out, information on waste, gains obtained by sending waste for recycling (trees saved, greenhouse gas emissions, etc.), survey, training videos, presentations, photographs.

Konya Zero Waste Information System (KOSABS) allows us to see how much waste is generated from where by recording the amount of waste collected separately at the source in all 31 districts starting from Konya central districts to Konya Zero Waste Information System at the source.

Waste collection points such as mobile waste collection centres, temporary waste collection units, vegetable waste oil collection bins, waste medicine bins located in Konya central districts are shown point by point in the map environment and easy access to waste points is provided to citizens.

With Konya Zero Waste Mobile Application, recyclable waste collection points in Konya central districts are shown on the map environment and access of citizens is facilitated by providing directions. All information pages on the website are available in the mobile application.

Uncontaminated biodegradable wastes from the cafeteria of Konya Metropolitan Municipality are processed in the Solar Compost Plant with a capacity of 500 liters/day and compost is produced. The compost produced is used for soil improvement, landscaping, agricultural production, zero waste awareness and training, etc.

Up to 5 liters of frying waste oil is collected from households and recycled. In addition, vegetable waste oils are recycled to the economy thanks to the vegetable waste oil collection bins located at various points of the city where the public can easily reach. In the first six months of 2024, 1675 liters of vegetable waste oil was collected from households within the scope of the collection of vegetable waste oil.

On 02.09.2009, the first protocol was signed between the Metropolitan Municipality, District Municipalities and the Association of Portable Battery Manufacturers and Importers (TAP) for the separate collection of waste batteries within the scope of the ‘Regulation on the Control of Waste Batteries and Accumulators’ dated 31.08.2004 and numbered 25569, and the ‘Award-winning Waste Battery Collection Campaign’, which continues regularly every year, was launched for the 2023-2024 academic year. During the campaign, 4.7 tonnes of waste batteries were collected.

Konya Province Air Quality Improvement Project

In order to reduce the effects of air pollution on the environment and human health in our province, emission inventory was prepared and modelling studies were carried out and Air Quality Maps were prepared in which pollution sources were determined and pollution amounts were calculated. Clean air action plans covering the years 2020-2024 were prepared and put into practice within the scope of air quality maps.
