Call for Understanding and avoiding maladaptation to climate change
The call focuses on understanding the drivers and impacts of maladaptation to climate change and identifying ways to prevent and correct maladaptive outcomes. It supports the development of practical assessment methods, tools and guidelines to enable more effective, sustainable and equitable climate adaptation.

Scope. Funding supports the development of robust approaches to identify, assess and prevent maladaptation to climate change across sectors and regions. Projects must systematically analyse maladaptation drivers, validate evidence and case studies, and strengthen climate risk and adaptation assessment frameworks by integrating maladaptation risks, trade-offs and feedbacks. Solutions should deliver practical tools, guidelines and corrective strategies that support policymakers and adaptation stakeholders in designing effective, equitable and sustainable adaptation measures. Results should be scalable and transferable across governance levels and contribute to EU knowledge platforms, including Climate-ADAPT and the EU Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change.

Eligible applicants.Legal entity (including from Türkiye).
Key requirements. Projects must identify and analyse maladaptation drivers and evidence across sectors, regions and socio-economic contexts. They should improve climate risk and adaptation assessment methods and develop practical tools, guidelines and corrective measures to prevent maladaptation. Results should support EU adaptation policy and knowledge platforms, including Climate-ADAPT and the EU Mission on Adaptation.
Funding & duration. Funding rate up to 100% under Horizon Europe rules. Project budgets: 18 mln. Eur, reflecting large‑scale industrial demonstrators. Project duration: 36–48 months.
